My GDPI experience for the IIM Raipur (New IIMs) was nothing short of transformative, filled with valuable learnings and personal insights. The process began early in the morning, around 9 am, at my assigned center in Kolkata. The Group Discussion (GD) was the first round, and the topic provided was, “Should the appraisal system of being judged by senior employees be carried on, or should juniors also be allowed to evaluate seniors?” We were given 30 minutes to talk.
Despite the limited statistical data I had on the subject, I crafted my response logically, presenting balanced arguments for and against the proposition. I emphasized the potential benefits of a 360-degree feedback system and the challenges of bias. My effort felt coherent and organized, leaving me fairly satisfied with my performance in the WAT.
The second round was the Personal Interview (PI), conducted by a panel of three interviewers. There were six panels in total, and as luck would have it, I was the last candidate for my panel. M1 began by asking, “Tell me something about yourself.” I introduced myself as Ganesh and shared my lifelong passion for books, a hobby fostered by my parents who regularly brought books home. Being an only child, books became my primary source of entertainment and eventually shaped my ability to empathize and understand diverse perspectives. At IIT Hyderabad, this understanding inspired me to actively participate in extracurricular activities, leading to the foundation of the Literary Society (LitSoc). Starting from a bleak scenario, we integrated the debate, quiz, and literary activities clubs into a single entity. Under my leadership, the LitSoc won the Best Club Award that year.
