Selection Procedure at SIBM Pune

Applicants are initially screened in accordance with their SNAP (Symbiosis National Aptitude Test) scores. Those who make the cut have to go through group exercise (GI), and personal interview (PI). The candidate’s overall score in all these phases will ultimately determine whether or not they are accepted into the MBA programme.

WAT Topics at SIBM Pune

The candidate’s written communication skills are tested in this round. Either a 3×3 matrix of words is provided, and the potential configurations of the sets of 3 words are specified (three rows, three columns, and two diagonals). Or a general latest topic is assigned. In some cases, the candidates are shown a video or set of pictures. Candidates are given a choice of structures and instructed to use all three in the opening paragraph of their essays.

A total of 16 minutes is given to construct a narrative linking them (including one minute to read). Candidates need to write between 120 and 150 words. The following list of words and themes were provided in WAT rounds of previous admissions:Set of words: pandemic, import, covid-19, economy, rural India, mobile phones, etc.If you want to develop, you must embrace changeProblems with airline insolvencyVideo: A man walking in a street with a briefcase for the first 36-37 seconds, and in the last 2-3 seconds, he suddenly changes into fishnet stockings, puts on a wig and walks away.Smart cities

SIBM Pune GE PI GDPI Experience

Venue: Online

Profile: Fresher, B.A. Economics(h)

I gave the snap . After a really short 60 mins, I came out of the hall pretty chill. I had already got my cat score, so was not worried a lot about this. After the result came.. behold. I was surprised with a 99.771 percentile. That made me take it a lot more seriously lol.

My interview was on 21 February , afternoon slot. (12.30-4.30pm)

I was sitting staring the screen since about 12.15. I got logged in at around 12.37.

They started initially with basic document verification, so your Photo ID proof, SIBM Pune call letter and Snap admit card.

Then for about an hour we were shown video about the college, online processes, the directors address and finally there was a question and answer round with the director himself. People asked things like, summer placements, biodiversity(yes), etc etc.

Then we were sent to breakout room, where our attendance was marked. There were two panelists and one adcom guy. We started with our wat. It was for 12 mins. So basically you got to login to a portal, and just click on start test, the timer times the test itself and you do not need to click on the submit button, it does so itself after the time is up.

TOPIC : You have got a free world tour package. You have acrophobia( fear of flying) Write a story around this, using both statements.

It went well, wrote about overcoming fear and maybe giving it away too.

Group exercise: 4 images, 4 texts were given. Image= 200 points, text= 100 points.

Min budget to be used= 600 points. Make a story around the chosen things.

We has 8 people in our group. 1 min to think, 45 seconds to each to talk about their choice of texts and images and story, 7 mins to discuss in the group and 2 mins in the end to present to the panelists. Went well, no fish market at all, almost everyone talked about the same ideas which was corruption.

Then we were sent to another breakout room, from there we had our final document verification, 10th marksheet, 12 marksheet, graduation marksheet, sports certificates.

After a really really long wait for the PI, my turn was second last. There were again two panelist(not same), M1 and M2.They give you a case study for the interview. Mine was: You are the owner of a tourism company and due to covid there have been some problems, suggest solutions to attract more customers.

Said some points, we went back and forth on some and then the panelist moved on.

M1- Who are you?

told

M1- What sort of genre books do you like?

M2- Why MBA?

M2- Ya, but why not 2 years from now?

M1- I get it, but convince me again why right now?

M1- Which specialization?

M1- Which role and company?

M1-Ok thank you any questions

Overall a great experience, could have done better in the interview, but overall it was good. ALL the best to everyone.

Result-awaited 🙂

SIBM Pune GE PI GDPI ExperienceI am a student of SIBM Pune . SO I gave my first and last SIBM interview this year Feb.

So below is my experience:

GD:

We were given case study based on a business situation and the issues that the business is facing and then we had to develop and give solutions in the area of HR, Marketing, Operations and Finance. The business case was quite comprehensible.

Tips for GD: Avoid fish markets at all costs and when you are giving a GD,take everyone’s perspectives and give relevant points. The final answer to a question does not matter. The approach matters.

WAT-

They gave us a passage of about 2/3rd of a page.We had to write a summary and give the important words from the passage which matters. This should be fairly manageable for you guys since you have already cleared SNAP.

PI:

So my PI experience was really great.

They asked me the common question : Tell me about yourself.

Then they asked general questions like : Why MBA? Why HR? Why SIBM Pune? Why not SCMHRD since you are taking up HR?(I was very clear I was going to do HR from the start, however that might not be the case with you and that is okay;just prepare your “Why MBA” question well).

Then they came to the answers I had written in the form for GD-PI like “What does HR Generalist do?”( I had mentioned that in my form) etc. Then they started asking questions about my family and me; so basically they just wanted to know more about me and my personality.

So in short-turn your interview into an interesting conversation and be genuine; The people who take interviews are way too smart and experienced and can see through

All the best and I hope this helps!

SIBM Pune Interview Experience (Feb 15th, afternoon slot)

Reached the venue at 1. After verification, we were allotted our group numbers and seated accordingly. The director addressed us and then we were taken to another waiting area. Each group consisted of 7-8 candidates. We were then taken for the GEWAT process.

Group Exercise 1 :

Basically a game of Tetris. We were first given 5 minutes to solve our own puzzle and then the next 5-7 minutes it was up to us to either stick to our individual puzzle or try to solve together as a team. No one was able to solve the puzzle in the allotted time.

Written ability test :

We were shown a 40 second video(with no audio) and had to summarize the content in the video in 10 minutes in 100 words giving an apt title.

The video showed a man walking in a street with a briefcase for the first 36-37 seconds and in the last 2-3 seconds, he suddenly changes into fishnet stockings, puts on a wig and walks away.

Group Exercise 2 :

This was a case discussion.

The case was about a political party which had won the previous 5 elections held. But, the recent election results showed that they had won by a very slim margin. The party head decided to start a start up focusing on the younger generation/millennials. Unfortunately for him, even this didn’t work. He had an employee force of about 20 people and was willing to add up to 30 more employees.

The question was as to what business strategy the party head should use.

The discussion was very smooth with every chipping in and giving their 2 cents. We were able to arrive at a solution and conclude on time.

Personal Interview :

I was given an extempore topic outside the interview room and was given 1 minute to think. I had to choose between 2 options and give justification for the same. The topic given to me was “born as a freedom fighter or born in a free country”

There were 2 panelists. Both alumni. 1 middle aged male and 1 older female.

I was asked to take a seat and was immediately asked about my CD. Told them.

I was then asked to talk on my extempore topic. (Spoke about being born in a free country and how I would have more opportunities to express myself and how I wouldn’t need to be afraid of experimenting and taking chances).

Was asked why MBA and why not pursue a job?

(Told that my college didn’t offer a lot of marketing profiles and that pursuing an MBA aligned with my goals and aspirations)

Was asked what I did since graduation?

(Told that I had given cat, snap and other entrance exams last year and realized that I needed to give complete attention towards aptitude tests and hence chose not to take up a job. Also told that I had 45%ile in snap last time compared to the 98.6%ile this time. Also tried to talk about the marketing analytics course that I’m currently taking. They didn’t seem too interested.)

Was asked about my hobbies.

(Told how choosing bba gave me a lot of free time and how I was able to explore different things like starting a start up, learning guitar, doing an internship and so on.)

Was asked about my family background.

(Told that I live with my parents and grandmother and that my father is a retired agm at a psb due to which he would get transferred regularly.)

Was asked where and all I have been.

(Told Chennai, Adoni, Jabalpur, Mangalore and settled in Bangalore)

Was asked to choose between Mangalore and Bangalore.

(Chose Bangalore for it’s weather and city life)

Was asked what my name means to me and if it suits me.

(Told that lord Vishnu has 10 avatars and that in the same way, I have a lot of different interests and that am not blocked by just 1 train of thought)

Was asked 3 things that I’m unaware of.

(Told that if I’m unaware, how can I answer? They pried a bit more and wanted an answer. Told that I’m not aware of technical things and that am not aware of some events that are currently happening around the world. They didn’t push any further)

Was finally asked to leave.

Gave my thanks and left.

There were 2 document verification after this. 1. Eligibility verification. (They check your snap admit card and marksheets)

Academic Verification. (They just check your mark sheets)

Overall a very smooth process.

Will update whether I converted or not once the merit list is announced.

Edit : Was initially waitlisted at 932. That number moved to 750 odd. So, SIBM Pune didn’t happen last year. But a memorable experience none the less
